A: Three verification steps are required: ① Static inspection, before starting the engine, turn the fan by hand to confirm no jamming and no abnormal looseness (normal installation gap); ② Dynamic cold test, start the engine when cold, idle for 1-2 minutes, observe the fan speed – it should increase slowly, without sudden high speed or abnormal noise; ③ Dynamic hot test, continue idling until the water temperature reaches the normal range (about 90℃), at this time the fan should speed up significantly, and you can feel strong wind by approaching the fan with your hand (be safe, keep distance), and the water temperature is stable without fluctuation, indicating the clutch works normally.

Q: Compared with that of family cars, what are the differences in structure and performance of fan clutches for heavy-duty trucks?
A: There are two main differences: First, in structure, due to the large engine power and high heat dissipation demand of heavy-duty trucks, the fan clutch is larger in size, and most adopt the "dual-cavity silicone oil type" (ordinary family cars are mostly single-cavity), which can withstand higher torque, and some also have a manual locking function (to cope with extreme working conditions); second, in performance, the temperature adjustment range of truck clutches is wider (adapting to complex environments from -30℃ to 120℃), and they have stronger wear resistance and impact resistance (because truck driving conditions are worse), and their service life is usually 1.5-2 times that of family car clutches.

Q: How to determine if a fan clutch needs replacement?
A: You can judge if a fan clutch needs replacement through several simple methods. First, listen for abnormal noises—when starting a cold engine, if the fan makes grinding or squealing sounds, it may indicate internal wear. Second, observe the fan speed: when the engine heats up, the fan should speed up gradually; if it stays at a low speed or doesn’t change, the clutch may be faulty. Third, check by hand: after turning off the engine and letting it cool, try rotating the fan by hand—it should spin easily without jamming or resistance. If the fan is hard to turn or feels stuck, this suggests internal seizing, and replacement is necessary. Additionally, if the engine frequently overheats despite normal coolant levels, the fan clutch is likely the culprit.
