Railway rail shoulder, also called rail iron shoulder, rail fastenings inserts, railroad shoulder insert, railway cast-in anchor, it is semi-embedded in the concrete rail ties to fix the elastic rail clips to the tie plates. Rail shoulder is a pre-inserted item in the concrete sleepers, no matter for single stem type or twin stem type, used to fix the elastic rail clips, mainly e-clips, within the fastening system. Cast in Shoulder is made by casting from iron, and such shoulder is used by being pre-embedded in the concrete sleepers and works with the elastic clip to fasten the rail. For materials, cast in shoulder includes 3 types: M.C.I. shoulder by malleable iron and S.G.C.I. shoulder by malleable iron and S.G.C.I. shoulder by spheroid graphite iron.
The weld-on shoulder fastening makes it possible to manufacture the rails retaining units on the steel sleeper and the steel base plate when the E-shaped rail clamp is used for rail fastening.
Even if the cast-in shoulders are usually embedded in the concrete rail sleeper, they can be welded to a longer length of the steel track section or bearers for the manufacture of switches and cross arrangements using vertical rail geometries.
The welding capacity of the rail shoulders is determined by the layout design, which makes the railroad shoulder more useful and cost-effective. The rail shoulder accessories for a particular rail section shall be used in accordance with the design criteria to achieve proper elastic chuck toe loading.
