Ferulic acid was named after the organic acid first discovered and isolated from the herb Ferula. Widely found in various plants, it is a component of plant cell walls. Together with polysaccharides and proteins, ferulic acid forms the skeleton of plant cell walls. Ferulic acid is a weak organic acid, and its stability deteriorates with increasing temperature and pH.
Ferulic acid's molecular structure contains conjugated double bonds and phenolic hydroxyl groups. These two functional groups readily bind to free radicals, effectively capturing their lone electron pairs, thereby preventing the chain reaction caused by free radicals and protecting the body from oxidative damage. The unsaturated side chain imparts its reducing properties and also provides it with strong antioxidant capacity.
1. Ferulic acid can be an antioxidant
Rice bran extract ferulic acid can be an antioxidant, eliminate free radicals, reduce ultraviolet radiation to skin cells, inhibit skin cell aging, and prevent skin aging.
2. Ferulic acid can be anti-inflammatory
