Genistein is primarily found in the Leguminosae family, with significant concentrations found in Sophora japonica and Sophora flavescens. Genistein, also known as genistein, occurs as rectangular or hexagonal rod-shaped crystals (in 60% ethanol) or dendritic crystals , with a melting point of 297-298°C (slight decomposition). It is soluble in DMSO and ethanol but virtually insoluble in water, with a solubility of 8.7 μg/mL. Changing the pH of the solution has no significant effect on genistein.
1.Anti-tumor effects
Inhibits the cell cycle: arrests cells in the G2/M phase; induces apoptosis of tumor cells: promotes apoptosis by upregulating pro-apoptotic genes and downregulating anti-apoptotic genes, thereby preventing and limiting tumor development;
2.Antibacterial effects
Its antibacterial mechanism is achieved by disrupting the integrity of the cell wall and membrane, inhibiting the TCA cycle and protein synthesis.
3.Estrogenic effects
GEN (genistein or genistein) and its aglycones are the most abundant components of soy isoflavones. The aglycone form of soy isoflavones is more active than the glycoside form, with GEN being particularly active, exhibiting bidirectional phytoestrogen-modulating effects.
