To use silicon carbon rods reasonably, the following harmful gases should be avoided from contacting the components: hydrogen (H2) can damage the structure of SiC and reduce the mechanical strength of the components. Nitrogen (N2) can prevent the oxidation of SiC below 1200 ℃, and react with SiC above 1350 ℃, leading to the decomposition of SiC.
