Overheat protection for semiconductor devices
Semiconductor devices require SMD thermistors for overheating protection during operation to avoid the impact of excessive temperatures on them. The NTC thermistor is arranged on the internal substrate of the power module, so as to monitor the temperature of the cooling plate on which the module is installed. The NTC thermistor is connected to the comparator of the controller. When the resistance value of the NTC thermistor is lower than the set value, the controller will reduce the power of all semiconductor devices, thereby reducing the internal temperature.
Especially when wide bandgap semiconductors (GaN or SiC) are used in power modules, the operating temperature is higher than that of standard silicon, so there may be mounting methods that require component changes. In the case of standard silicon, solder and adhesives can be used. If it is necessary to work at a higher temperature, it is necessary to mount the component on the DCB during the sintering process (direct copper bonding), or to use gold, silver or aluminum wire for bonding connection for the placement work of interconnection . When the junction temperature is reached, the IGBT needs to be turned off to avoid its damage due to excessive high temperature. It is necessary to install an SMD chip NTC thermistor for overheating protection.
