Characteristics of Hypoid Gears:
1. Offset Axes: Hypoid gears have offset axes, which means that the axes of the mating gears do not intersect or cross each other. Instead, they are positioned at an angle to each other, allowing power transmission between non-intersecting shafts.
2. Helical Tooth Geometry: Hypoid gears have a helical tooth geometry similar to spiral bevel gears. The teeth are curved and spiral-shaped, allowing for smooth engagement and reduced noise compared to straight bevel gears.
3. High Torque Capacity: The offset design of hypoid gears enables them to transmit high torque loads efficiently. The larger contact area between the teeth and the optimized tooth geometry contribute to their increased torque capacity.
