Core working principle
Basic principle: The negative pressure (suction) generated by a powerful pump (usually a centrifugal pump or a submersible pump) is
used to suck the mud and sand mixture (called "sand and water mixture" or "slurry") at the bottom of the water through the sand suction
pipe.
Key process:
Stirring and loosening: The head of the sand suction pipe is usually equipped with different devices (such as auger head, high-pressure
water gun, rake head) to stir, break and loosen the sediment on the riverbed/seabed to make it easier to be sucked in.
Suction and transportation: The strong suction generated by the sand pump sucks the slurry formed by the loosened mud and water
through the sand suction pipe.
Pipeline transportation: The sucked slurry is transported to the designated location through the pipeline system on the ship (sometimes
relay by floating pipes on the shore or on the water is required).
Separation and stacking: After the slurry is transported to the destination (such as a yard, barge, reclamation area), the mud and sand
will gradually settle down, and the excess water will be discharged or recycled.
