Vitamin A aldehyde, also known as retinal, is the closest component to A acid. It is produced by the oxidation and cleavage of β-carotene. There are 16 stereoisomers. 13 have been chemically synthesized, of which the 11-cis isomer is the chromogenic substance in natural opsins. All-E type: crystalline. Melting point 64-65℃. 7E, 9Z, 11E, 13E types: melting point 56-58℃.
